A Trick, Not a Treat: Scottsbluff Police Investigate After Inch-Long Nail Found Inside Halloween Snickers Bar

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — A Halloween night of trick-or-treating took an alarming turn when a parent found a nail inside their child's candy, according to the Scottsbluff Police Department.
Officers were called to a residence near East Overland and Seventh Avenue at about 10:48 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. A parent reported finding a nail in a Snickers Ghoulish Green chocolate bar their child received while trick-or-treating. Officers inspected the candy and found an inch-long nail lodged in it. Police said the child was not severely injured.
Investigators believe the child got the candy at a house near the Westmoor School area. Police described the possible suspect residence as having Halloween decorations with large spiderwebs, and the possible suspect as an older man with gray hair, blue eyes and dinosaur pajamas. No one has been publicly identified, and no arrest has been announced.
Police are reminding parents to check their children's Halloween candy for signs of tampering. Anyone with information should report it to the Scottsbluff Police Department as soon as possible.
For a family hoping for a fun night, the discovery was a frightening reminder to check treats before anyone eats them. Police hope the community's help will explain how a nail ended up in a child's candy.
