Gone Too Soon at 20: Umatilla Woman Rayvonie Patterson Killed in Highway 12 Rollover Near Walla Walla; Driver Faces Possible Charges

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — A 20-year-old Umatilla woman died early Sunday in a rollover crash west of Walla Walla, leaving her family and friends grieving, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The crash happened around 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, on eastbound U.S. Highway 12 near milepost 327, about six miles west of Walla Walla. WSP said Syrus K. Peppinger, 19, of Othello, was driving a 2006 Honda Civic when it left the road, struck an embankment and rolled. Rayvonie K. Patterson, a passenger, was not wearing a seat belt. She was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center, where she died. Peppinger and the second passenger, Kaiomi M. Morris, 20, of Pasco, were wearing seat belts. Both were injured and taken to the same hospital.
WSP said the cause remains under investigation, but that drugs or alcohol were involved and charges are pending against the driver. Patterson's family was notified early Sunday.
At just 20, Rayvonie had so much life ahead of her, with dreams still to chase and memories still to make. May her family and friends find strength in cherished memories, and may the two young people injured in the crash recover fully.
